We
heard about Dr. Toler’s Vision Therapy program from a friend. She told me
about it a year before we started. She thought we ought to look into it. I
didn’t believe that my child could be helped. I thought it was just his young
age of 7 that kept him from reading any better. His teacher also agreed with me
and said he was doing “just fine”. After trying for one school year with
daily reading and seeing little to no improvement, I went for help! And within 4
weeks his reading and enthusiasm were unbelievable!
In
September, he hated to read. He cried, he counted pages; he looked at the
pictures and he made-up the story. He guessed at words and skipped around. He
couldn’t read an easy reader (book) without a bookmark to keep his place. He
mixed up letters, sounded out words from the middle of the word or from right to
left. He mixed up his Bs and Ds, Ts and Js, and other letters when reading and
writing. He was in one of the lowest reading groups in his class.
After
4 to 6 weeks with Dr. Toler’s program, he was reading without a bookmark. It
was such an exciting event for us! He
loved going to therapy and earning points and prizes. Doing (vision therapy)
homework was the key to our success. Keeping him motivated and seeing the quick
improvements was what made it all so fun.
After
25 sessions, he had gone from reading a few pages of an easy-reader picture book
to chapter books with little to no pictures! His confidence and enthusiasm for
reading is wonderful. He asks to read “just one more chapter” now. He was
very sad when his sessions ended. He asks now if we can go back to work some
more.
I
would highly recommend this program to anyone who thinks there might even be a
slight possibility that it’s needed. It was worth every penny and minute we
spent on it. I will be Vision Therapy cheerleader forever! I wish every
schoolteacher could learn more about this program and be aware of the remarkable
results.
Thank
you,
Darden C.
