Success Stories

My daughter has done vision therapy training. It has made a significant difference in her reading abilities and I would recommend getting any child screened who was having trouble in school or with reading. She was a bright child who never had "gotten it" about reading. She knew her friends at school could read better and liked reading when she didn't. Consequently she was beginning to think she was "dumb" or she "just couldn't do it." Her teachers weren't real concerned since her grades were fine, but I knew something wasn't right. I kept talking to people and reading books and articles - I never once considered getting her eyes checked. Finally I heard about vision therapy and arranged for a screening immediately. She had 30 sessions, usually twice a week.   Margaret S.

After years of trying almost every known avenue to improve Ryan’s reading skills, Ryan started complaining of double vision and blurriness. We realized that something was seriously wrong with our son’s vision. Years before we had seen Dr. Toler’s advertisements but passed them off, not being anxious to go down another “unsure” or “dead-end” road. But we had no choice but investigate the problem and made an appointment.

Since vision therapy, we are so happy to say that Ryan has a made remarkable improvement. There is no more blurriness or double vision. He now gets excited about reading a book that suits his interest. This has been the only road that has not proven to be a dead-end. Patricia D.

Mary Hannah’s self confidence has greatly improved. She enjoys reading. Her eye-hand coordination has shown great improvement and she now enjoys playing sports. Prior to vision therapy Mary Hannah had great difficulty reading and would never read for pleasure. Homework was a real nightmare – crying and headaches were common. Peggy M.

We were fortunate that we caught Ben's difficulties with accommodation (eye focusing) and tracking (eye movement and fixation) early. I noticed when I was home schooling Ben for kindergarten that he really avoided close work and showed little interest in reading. He's now in 1st grade in public school and is doing well. He's bringing home, "supplemental books" to read to us. We're thrilled! Melissa W

Sarah’s self confidence has improved greatly. Homework and schoolwork seems less frustrating and takes less effort to complete. Her self-image has also improved a great deal. She doesn’t call herself “dumb” or “stupid” any longer. We were pleased to see every subject improve at least a letter grade with her last report card. Catherine A.

Before therapy, my son would cry if I asked him to read books that went beyond the Pre-K level. He complained of “feeling sick” when he read. This occurred within 10 minutes of his reading 1st grade level books. He was discouraged and stated he just did not like to read. As we continued to witness this behavior, I was concerned that he would be a “poor reader” simply because it made him physically sick to read!

Once we started therapy, we realized his eyes were not accommodating (focusing) well to changes, as well as he had eye fatigue of a 43 year old!  I am happy to report he is “loving” reading and wants to go the library for chapter books! His eyes fatigue at an 8 year old level now – his age!!! Excellent results and a happy mom and child! D.

As grandparents, it was very difficult to see Courtney struggle with all aspects of schoolwork. While she enjoyed having stories read to her, she was unable to read the same story to us. We saw one of your articles describing vision problems and recognized these were the same problems Courtney was experiencing.

After vision therapy, Courtney’s improvement has been unbelievable. Math grades from C to B, book reports and reading completed on time without help. Homework, which was a major problem, is now finished correctly and neatly stacked on my desk ready to be checked, and many times, even completed at school.

Courtney had tutoring for three years, without any improvement. Frankly, we were at a loss as to how to help her until we saw your article. Thank you for your help in getting Courtney from a third grade level to a happy 5th grader. Bobby B.

Vision Therapy gave me another opportunity to try to help aide my child with his school academics. My son after a few weeks of therapy started reading signs, books and other materials which required reading without being prompted. He tells me that he can see a lot better now. His words are not jumbled up together. Thanks for the extra help. I recommend others to try it. Tammie H.

(What changes do you feel have occurred during the time that your child has participated in vision therapy?) My child has developed self-confidence. She is eager to read and does so without hesitating or halting in the middle of reading. If she makes a mistake while reading, she corrects herself without getting upset. Her reading level and comprehension have improved at least a grade level. Julianna enjoyed the therapy sessions with her therapist. I would highly recommend Vision Therapy and have already done so to a friend. Emily P.
